Contract asked about dietary restrictions and I personally talked with outfitter about meals. Was told all taken care of and when arrived no food was available. We had to get food in Gardiner and cook ourselves. Also we booked a hunt for four hunters on the ranch. The second day there were 5 extra people on the ranch hunting. Sam, a guide and assistant to Edwin, was using a chainsaw on 2 days in the exact area we were hunting. When we asked him to not do this he agreed not to. Instead of keeping his word, he drove his truck again right where we were hunting. Hard to imagine this not affecting the movement of elk. The other hunter with me did get a bull elk. Edwin did not have the horses, gear or trailer ready to go harvest the animal. After my guide spent several hours rounding things up we finally went to get the elk which had been down for more than 20 hours. From what I have read, in Grizzly country, should harvest asap! We had a close encounter with 5 bears once got to the carcass. We did get the meat eventually but the end result I lost essentially an entire day of hunting secondary to poor organization on Edwins part. I talked with Edwin at the ranch and he apologized but basically blew me off. I called him once returned home to NE. He said there isnt anything he can do about my hunt. I informed him of all the above. He even mentioned the very next week he was going to have a maintainer working the logging roads during the next groups hunt. I told him this does not meet expectations of someone paying to hunt. He is not providing a good experience/service. I told him I wanted a refund for the price of one day of hunting as he didnt really seem to care. He said he wanted to talk with Sam about the above mentioned discussion and would call me back in a few days. It has been more than two weeks and he has yet to respond. I have called several times and Edwin will not return my messages. I have been on four other guided hunts for elk. Montana Guide Service by far is the worst I have expericend.
