This was my 2nd trip out to Wyoming to hunt Antelope at the Werner Ranch. After my first bowhuting experience at the Werner Ranch bringing home a nice buck, I knew I wanted to share this hunt with family and friends. So this trip I brought my son Joshua and good friend & co-worker Kevin with me. This was both their first time bowhunting antelope which made this trip very special for all of us.

On Day One – Kevin arrowed a huge P & Y buck that scored 79+ inches which was less than an inch from making it a B & C book buck. Later in the week my son Joshua’s aim with his recurve was true and shot a P & Y buck we called the Hooker buck. He was called this because his horn curled around so much. To see the excitement and look on both their faces was perhaps the most rewarding hunting experiences anyone can ask for.

My hunt did not go perfect but ended well. I made a shot farther back then I wanted on a nice buck with my recurve. I could see the buck was bleeding good as he went over a hill by my blind, but I was still very worried about recovering him. I called JJ from my blind and he let me know Mark saw the whole thing through his binoculars and was watching the buck from a distance in his truck. JJ and I then were able end my hunt after we stalked up on the bedded buck and I shot him again. I know the reason I was able to recover this buck was because of JJ and Mark.

All seven bowhunters in camp were again able to harvest bucks as they did on my first trip. The Werner Ranch is also a great place to take your family. In camp was a family who brought their ten year old son. He was in the blind with his Grandfather when he shot his buck. The next day he was in the blind with his Mom when she arrowed her buck. Talk about an exciting week for this young man. Plus sitting at the table each day enjoying the fantastic home-cooked meals prepared by Connie Werner makes this hunting camp top notch!

The Bottom Line – A very hard working Outfitter where you have an excellent chance of shooting a nice buck. I highly recommend the Werner Ranch for bowhunting antelope!
