I can see why so many people feel like hunting with an outfitter is such a scam. The fact that there are multiple lodges and other people of varying ability and skill set would make one think there is politics behinds the scenes'. This could be true, however we were treated very fairly. We were given the opportunity at describing the "type" of hunting we wanted to fulfill and at this particular time of year, anything could happen. All that being said I can only speak for myself here. "Mike" our guide for the first day put me in a stand I was questionable about from the get go. It was low and the wind was wrong. To my dismay Mike knew a heck of a lot more about Pike county then I do so I sat for roughly 40 mins on weds morning before I saw deer. Not just one deer but several deer. By 7:45 I had a 130" in my lap..First morning of a 3 day hunt I passed. We as a group (3) of us decided to retain Mike for the next day. Mike did not disappoint as we all saw deer. There were no shooters sighted the first day but all of saw great deer up close and personal. The evening of my second day I was able to Harvest a great buck at 35yards. It was the start of the Rut and things were really getting interesting. I watched this particular Buck from a great distance cross a creek, make 3 scrapes and tend to a few does before he walked in front of me. The staff at HC could not have been more supportive and happy for me. All around it was a great Hunt and experience. For me hunting creek bottoms with pinch points and funnels is what its all about. Some guys in camp were seeing unreal numbers of deer daily, however as my guide so eloquently told me, "You will be hunting Bucks, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when he will run this creek"..It was a great hunt..
