Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

Just wrapped up a week with Hickory Creek Outfitters out of Sedan, KS. Six full days of hunting were part of the package, but I managed to harvest an OLD buck on the fifth day. The lodge we stayed in was pretty nice; nothing overly fancy, but plenty of space and a comfortable living room with satellite TV for when you weren't on stand. There were 17 hunters hunting with the outfitters that week and we had 6 staying in our camp, with the other 11 spread out between three other locations.

The food was so-so. The dinners we had each night were excellent as a camp cook came in and made sure we were well fed. Other than that, you were pretty much on your own. There was little to nothing in the way of snacks and the only option for breakfast was a few different cereal choices. Luckily the town of Sedan was close and you could stock up on snacks and find a place to grab a hot lunch if you wanted.

The hunting was a bit slow our week. We were plagued by warm and windy conditions for much of the week -- and we hunted only the mornings and evenings because of it. With that being said, MOST people saw 6-12 deer a day at a minimum. Hunting was out of hang-on and ladder stands and they were all in decent shape and well located. It had been extremely slow for me, as of my first eight sits, I only saw deer once (three does on the first evening).

My luck changed the fifth day, as I saw one young buck in the morning, and then managed to connect with an old warrior on the fifth evening (we estimated him to be 6.5 years old). It was the first deer shot that week out of the 17 hunters (although there were a few blown chances amongst the group) and the hunters the week before struck out as well, so it was slow. But it has the ability to pick up any second and the land is some prime hunting country. A few big bucks were spotted during the week and the consensus among everyone else in camp is that it was likely to pick up even more the next week. For the price it's a good deal.

Hickory Creek guide Wes also helped me tremendously by caping and deboning my deer. It was nice to have him available to make quick work of it and he did a great job. Josh was my guide during the week and he was great as well.

All in all, I'd hunt with Hickory Creek again. Knowing what to expect will make it even better the next time around!

Weather Comments:
Weather is ALWAYS a factor no matter where you hunt. It was a little windy, but it's windy there a lot and I think the deer are pretty used to it. If we had some colder temperatures I think the deer movement would have been better.
