Hunter Comments

This is the second time in as many months that we have visited Allen Williams at Dos Plumas Hunting Ranch. It is also the second time that we have had an outstanding time and an outstanding hunt. Everyone wants to kill the animal they are hunting, and we are no exception. Unfortunately, we were unable to close the deal(hunting whitetails), but still had a heck of a time. Allen and his crew took outstanding care of us (even hauled me to Abilene to get my bow repaired mid-day of the first day). Maybe all outfitters take customer service to that level, maybe not. But I assure you that Allen and his staff will.

While we were not successful hunting whitetails, the other groups that were hunting hogs, rams and exotics were cleaning house! In fact, the group that was leaving the night we arrived (8 guys) killed 17 aninimals in 3 or 4 days (blackbuck, rams and hogs)! I don't care who you are, that's pretty good success in my book.

I read another review here on Dos Plumas that questioned the quality of animals available on this ranch. I have been through the exotic/hog/ram pasture and over most of the whitetail areas. I assure you Allen has the quality of animals to mount on my wall any day. But more than that, Allen has never once sold me a bill of goods that this is a dedicated trophy ranch. He has told me and I have seen some real trophy quality animals and with a little better scent control might have bagged a 160-170 class whitetail on our first visit. He has some mammoth hogs, rams of every size and shape, and I guarantee you I will be heading back for a blackbuck and fallow buck.

For the price as compared to other Texas ranches, you cannot go wrong with Dos Plumas. Not to mention, Allen is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and he builds his business on customer service. Sometimes hunting is tough, as it should be, and sometimes the animals don't cooperate as we would like. But that shouldn't take away from the experience of the hunt. Dos Plumas is a great ranch and is managed so that average guy like me can afford to hunt and have a good time.
