I've thrown buckwheat in mixes but never tried a pure stand until this past season. It came up fantastic and started drawing deer quickly.
Activity Results
Buckwheat was the first of my spring plantings to mature. it came up very fast, far faster than my Trefoil and Alfalfa. The deer hit it hard for about a week. Once the alfala started to fill in, the deer basically abandoned it. It grew to full maturity before it dropped millions of seeds which attracted turkeys. I was disapointed in the deer utilization.

I'll be curious to see how well it draws turkeys into my plot this spring. There are a ton of seeds still on the ground. I likely won't plant again. It comes up extremely fast and reaches maturity before virtually anything else including weeds, but it seemed pretty far down on the deers' preference list.
