Jake rated each animal based on three criteria:
1.) degree of training probably required: 2.) element of danger...(either from the expected weather, terrain, or animal)
3.) the cost. Zero would be the lowest, and three would the highest.
He did not take into account the difficulty involved in taking a P&Y caliber animal (i.e. mule deer, etc). |

Jake's Muskox Summary
I was quite interested in bow hunting for polar bear. A hunting buddy (Bob Miller) that had already taken a polar bear with his bow, suggested a muskox hunt as a warm up hunt, since the required gear would be the same. This was one of my more memorable hunting experiences. The Inuit culture, the barren expanse where these animals thrive, and the entire arctic adventure go far beyond the typical challenges encountered on many of my other bowhunts. On the second day of the hunt, Bob wounded a nice bull. As he stalked closer to finish the animal, it had another bull standing guard over it...which I took with one arrow at 26 yards. The two animals collapsed within 60 yards of each other. I have eaten every animal of the North American 29 (except brown bear), and muskox remains my all time favorite....moose and sheep are way up near the top, but I have to give muskox my first place vote. BTW, this animal was killed BEFORE I owned the infamous beaver hat! You will see the hat in the polar bear photo only
