Jake rated each animal based on three criteria:
1.) degree of training probably required: 2.) element of danger...(either from the expected weather, terrain, or animal)
3.) the cost. Zero would be the lowest, and three would the highest.
He did not take into account the difficulty involved in taking a P&Y caliber animal (i.e. mule deer, etc). |

Jake's Alaskan Yukon Moose Summary
I took an A/Y Moose many years ago, but with a rifle. Once I realized that I might be able to complete the NA29 with archery gear, I returned to the Yukon to try my luck. It actually took me a couple attempts to get it done, but the experience and the memory were well worth the wait. I am personally NOT keen on riding horses, but for the first time in a two or three decade hunting career, I actually rode a horse for an hour or two on a couple separate occasions. I have also backpacked, and raft hunted as well. I really like raft hunting....it is silent, you can cover a lot of ground, and if you shoot a bull near the river, you can REALLY cut down on having to hump the meat out over a long distance. When you call these monsters in, and they come in canting their heads and 'posturing', it is just an awesome experience. Then, there is the meat.....great meat and LOTS of it!! Did I mention that I like moose meat?....LOL!!
