Jake's Difficulty Rating

Alaskan Brown Bear 1

Jake rated each animal based on three criteria:

1.) degree of training probably required:
2.) element of danger...(either from the expected weather, terrain, or animal)
3.) the cost.

Zero would be the lowest, and three would the highest.

He did not take into account the difficulty involved in taking a P&Y caliber animal (i.e. mule deer, etc).

Jake's Alaskan Brown Bear Summary

This animal was my personal nemesis. I hunted brown bear for 53 days before I was able to get a shot opportunity. This animal is also mentioned in a thread on the Bowsite forum, along with a little video footage. Not only was the hunt memorable, but the getting the bear out of the sluice that he slid into (after dying) made for a comedy of errors. You can actually see the sluice, just behind me in the photo. I swear that if the bear had weighed another 10 pounds, we wouldn't have been able to get his water logged body out of that sluice, because he fell in back first, with his feet sticking straight up in the air. I must admit that I was not able to eat this animal....when we butchered him, he was so full of tapeworms, that consuming the meat was not an option. My guess is that he would have tasted very similar to the grizzly bear.....like anchovies.
