About the United Bowhunters of Missouri
The UBM was founded in 1987 as Missouri's first state organization whose sole purpose is to promote the sport of bowhunting. The state of Missouri is divided into nine districts insuring bowhunter representation from all geographic regions of Missouri. Officers include 9 elected and 9 appointed bowhunters selected from the membership. Also, playing a key role are area representatives who provide input and promote the recruitment of new members.
Programs of the UBM
Bowhunter Education Instruction--All across Missouri, UBM Bowhunter Education Instructors hold classes to provide instruction regarding proper conduct of bowhunters in the field. If you want to see a class taught in your area, contact your district representative for details.
Protect What's Right--A program first brought to Missouri by the UBM, serves to educate the non-hunting public regarding the role of hunting in wildlife management.
Conservation Federation of Missouri--The UBM is an active participant in this important organization. In 1995, the UBM was selected as the CFM Organization of the year.
Conservation Projects--The UBM supports sound management of Missouri's resources by offering financial support to allow completion of worthwhile projects by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Some of which are:
Media Contact -- The UBM concentrates on providing favorable press for bowhunting. UBM officers have helped in the development of pro-hunting stories for local, state, and national publications such as the Kansas City Star and USA Today.
Youth Involvement -- The UBM has worked to introduce young people to bowhunting. In 1996, the UBM sponsored two mothers and their teenage children to attend the Pope and Young Club's Outdoor Camp in Colorado. In 1997, the UBM sponsored a mentor and youth hunter to the PBS Traditional Values 21st Century Youth Leadership Bowhunt in Texas.
