Does anyone have a suggestion for a spring planting that I will disk in and then replant with a winter mix early August. I was looking at grandpa rays soil builder. Thanks.

I like peas early, good food source and soil conditioner for your fall planting.

Buckwheat is a good one. Sunflowers, beans, peas, sorghums, med red clover, etc. Lots of good options depending on where you are at and weeds present.

I would classify the above suggestions as early summer .... not spring. Make sure your soil temps are right for what you are planting. Buckwheat is a good soil builder if you are looking for that.

I have planted spring greens from deer creek seeds and till it under in August then put in autumn buffet. It works awesome and helps the soil out also. Deer love it!

Mike-TN is right, buckwheat will not germinate if the soil temp is too low (around 50 degrees) making it a summer type plot. I guess I had made an assumption about planting time and a termination goal of August. What about Spring Barley? I believe it can be planted mid March.

Depending on your soil I would think you would want an annual legume to fixate nitrogen so that you can minimize if not eliminate nitrogen fertilizer for your fall plot. GR soil builder is a great option as are spring peas.

We used winter wheat last year;worked great. It likes the cold and dies off in July or so(At least in our area),then plant your fall plot.
