Planted my first Vetch plot this Spring. Did well and had been really drought resistant until the conditions brutalized. Idaho. No rain since mid June. Weeks of 90-100s. Humidity 15-30%. Some is still green but much has turned totally brown. Question is will it recover when rain comes like clover or is it dead? Also is it good to mow Vetch when not stressed to surpressor weeds? Thanks

Dont ever clip any forages that are stressed and in drought situations. If you clip at all, clip high.

Honestly expected something totally different when I clicked on this post. Thought it may of been a typo.

Ditto, Quinn. I clicked with extreme caution. :-)

Was at my brothers in Idaho a couple weeks ago. Couldn't believe how dry it was. Worst I have ever seen it.

Quinn, Midwest... agreed. I was about to google "vetch" so I knew what I was about to see.

Got me too.

Back in the 70's hairy vetch was all the rage.

Little feedback. Moderate rain came one day and much of plot greened up. Of my 8 acres of different plots planted, it is my only plot that is not overbrowsed to the ground. But the deer love it. Feed in it all day long.

Ya, I kind of clicked and looked through my fingers. Just sounds disgusting lol.

... in the 70's it was not considered disgusting... just sayin'

Y'all are dorks

How did that field work out? Did the vetch reseed? I planted some, but have not seen any germination yet.

I thought this was a Rosie O'Donnell picture.

Was afraid I’d see Michelle Obama with a 5 ‘O clock shadow...:-(

Had me wondering!

Treeline & Heritage......Those would be considered hairy wretches, and make me WANT to retch!

I plowed my HV under year 2. Few reseeders here and there. I’m planting winter rye plus HV in a new plot this month. I think it’s great companion crop. Deer love it, drought and cold resistant and good nitrogen fixator.

Good for the pollinators too.
