I've hunted With Cody Carr's Hunting adventures on six occasions: three bear, two archery elk, one rifle elk. I've harvested an animal each and every time, and on one of the elk hunts, I harvested a great whitetail in addition to a bull. I've hunted with a lot of different outfitters and there are none that I would suggest more highly than this outfit. I was surprised by how many negative reviews I have seen here, but based on what I have seen in camp at Cody's, it's not actually that shocking. By and large (and I realize that there are always exceptions) the negative reviews come from either A) unrealistic expectations or B) unpreparedness on the part of the hunter (both physically and skill level), or both, which seems to be the case with increasing frequency. In the Rocky Mountains on public ground, there are not 350 bulls behind every tree. Yes, you will work for an animal. You must be able to hike. You must be able to shoot. The hunters who have solid shot opportunities in this camp greatly outnumber the hunters who don't (from what I've witnessed), and when there's no shot opportunity, it's often because the hunter is not capable of physically getting to animals. A great deal of hunters miss, and others wound animals. This is every outfitter's greatest struggle. If you really want to gage the quality of Cody Carr's hunts, ask him how many return clients he has. A ton. Some of these are people who have the money to hunt anywhere in the world, but yet they continue to return to Montana to hunt with Carr. If his service is as bad as some people here claim, do you really think millionaires/billionaires would return, year after year? Or the average "working guys" that also keep returning? I don't think so. I can't stress enough that there are always, always people who will moan, complain and slack off in camp. Some are just lazy. Others are downright rude. And when they fail to harvest an animal because of their own lack of skill/conditioning, they justify it and avoid their own embarrassment by griping and pointing fingers. The long and the short of it is this: If I want to do an outfitted hunt in the Rocky Mountains, it will be at Carr's. The staff is second to none. The lodging is great. The animals are as prevalent as any public ground in Rockies (except maybe super-limited draw units). The food is outstanding and the scenery in and of itself is a bucket list experience. If you are not mentally or physically prepared for a Rocky Mountain big game hunt, then please - for your sake and the sake of your outfitter - take the time and do the work to get yourself ready before taking on such an endeavor.
