This was my first outfitted elk hunt. It was sold to my group as an elk hunt with the possibility of a whitetail. The pitch was that by hunting the early season the outfitter would have scouted and patterned the bulls. Upon our arrival it was painfully obvious that zero scouting was done, no trailcams were used other than while we were there Which produced nothing. There were 2 guides in camp. Neither of them had ever killed an elk and one of them never hunted elk with a bow. He told me. The guides were both hired the week before we arived, they were from out of state and had no experience in the area we were. By the end of our 7 day hunt nobody had even the remote opportunity at an elk and one guy out of 5 fired a shot, it was a 140" class whitetail. The people were very nice and the food was great. However the hunt was one click above a pathetic. They offered nothing to use such as a invite back to hunt the rut or apology for their lies. The woman running it was very good at answering calls and emails til we paid but leading into the hunt didn't return any calls or emails (because they weren't scouting). I felt like I was taken advantage of and was very unhappy with the experience.
