I booked this hunt and took my 2 sons, Keith and Craig. Mike Connett was a superb host and guide. I knew when he first greeted us with that BIG smile he was going to be someone the boys and I would have fun being with. I have been hunting for over 45 years and have had many experiences hunting with my sons but none quite like hunting at Wide Rack. After the 3 of us came in from our first morning we could not stop from gleaming at all the game we saw that morning. Even though we were not successful we had a great time. Between the 3 of us we saw several shooter Bucks, plenty of healthy doe, flocks of Turkey, and I can't forget Craig's excitement telling us about the 8 coyotes he saw-all in the first 5 hours on Monday. He did get a shot at one the next morning after Mike coached Craig on how to call them in. We all three learned a lot about archery hunting from Mike and the others in camp. Mike worked so hard for us that entire week, and we continued to see quality deer but unfortunately we did not harvest one. Craig had a near miss, several times. You are right at home at Wide Rack, Elena is a great hostess and cook- by the way thanks for giving up your 52" Big Screen TV to us in the Trophy room where we relaxed and watched Monday night football and ESPN. It was VERY hot that week, Temps in the high 60's but interesting enough we all saw Bucks moving as late as 11am, Mike would encourage us to stay in our stands and he was right. The measure of our success was not measured entirely in taking home a Deer. We certainly could have taken Does and maybe even a 120" but we saw much larger deer and opted to wait it out. We measured our success by the fun we had and the new friends we made. The best compliment I can give Mike and Wide Rack is "we'll be back" soon. Thanks for a real adventure, which you promised and kept. By the way I cannot stop telling people about how you put that new stand in for me the last night along the creek bed over all the scrapes and had me hunting for the first time over a decoy. When that BIG BUCK came down (just like you said it would) to me my heart nearly pounded out of my chest. That was 15 minutes of the most excitement I ever had. Even though the shot didn't present itself it was "an adventure". I'm ready to try that again.
Thanks for the Kind Words Keith. I'm so glad You & your Sons had such a Great time. Yea, you were pretty excited about the encounter with the the big buck & the decoy set-up. Spending time with your Sons in archery camp will be somthing none of you will ever regret nor forget. It will be fond memories for you all. Looking forward to the Hamilton Clans return to Wide Rack Outfitters. Mike Connett
The mornings were actually always in the low 30s but it warmed up in the upper 60s during the day.
