I am doing this report for Black Bear as that was the way the hunt was described to me. I was had a brown bear tag as an option and Johnnie made it very clear that there was a chance of seeing a brown bear but it was primarily a black bear hunt.
The black bear hunt was incredible. I saw a ton of black bear on the beaches and they were very stalkable. This is a spot-stalk hunt, not a bait or stand hunt. We cruised the portland canal looking for black and brown bears. The black bears were everywhere and I took a nice 6.5' boar on the 3rd or 4th day. Brown bear were tougher, we saw a couple but they were hard to find. I would definately recommend this hunt for black bear and would encourage you to tag up for brown bear - but understand that brown bear may be tough here.
