May 6th, Action! I got to my hunting spot very early to try and sneak into my blind undetected. The gobbler was awake and gobbling like mad. I was able to sneak down a stone wall and quietly walked through some Mt. Laurel to my blind. I was lucky and pulled it off.
Getting into the blind, gobbler thundering in the background (no video, just sound) (220k) The gobbler flew down and landed next to my blind. I had a twenty yard shot but passed it up for a better one. The gobbler headed into the field where he was joined by two hens. He strutted around those hens for nearly an hour. In this next video, one hen who was hot, is cutting at the gobbler. This was neat as I have only heard this once. You need to turn up the sound a bit to hear her. The gobbler puffs into full strut and is obviously excited. Great video!
Gobbler in full strut, hot hen is cutting in background (670k) What happened next is amazing. The Gobbler chased the hen down and mounts her 50 yards from my blind. If I didn't film it, nobody would believe me. It lasted for a few minutes and this video shows the end of their lovemaking session.
Live Sex on the Bowsite - amazing footage (1.4mb) After nearly two hours of watching these birds, they left and I went home. It was an amazing morning with lots of action. The gobbler is going to be hard, if not impossible to pull from those hens. I will probably concentrate my efforts on trying to pull them in rather than him.
