I moved here in 2005. I believe they were issuing too many deer tags and then BLUE tongue hit and now we are reaping the results. I'm just not seeing the quality bucks I was seeing when I moved here.

Deer number continue to suffer in my area. I spend 40+ days archery hunting and see very few mature bucks. The state continues to issue too many rifle tags.

I hunted public land in four counties this year. Three of the gour counties were the best I've seen in several years for both the quantity of deer and the age structure of the bucks.

Good numbers of deer. Not an overabundance of does nor bucks but age structure seems to be in place and have a fair chance of killing a mature deer.

They have great deer, always have great hunts here. There need to be more accurate collection of harvest data to help the state manage their herd

It's tough to call out here because there are so many environments to manage differently. We have prairie and woods and both mule deer and whitetails. I think they are doing a great job.

Have hunted SD every year for the last ten. This was the worst year we have had as far as total deer numbers and mature bucks. Long rifle season in peak of rut taking it's toll on mature bucks.

I have harvested a very big whitetail and a big mulie buck in two years with my bow, the fish and game offices are hands down one of the best and easy to work with when buying nonresident archery tags
Jeff Danielson (nonresident)
Buck Quality: A
Deer Quantity: B+

Not sure if it is good mananagement, or the fact that resident rifle hunters seldom get out of their trucks, but numbers, age class, and ratios seem excellent.

In my opinion, the department puts too much emphasis on landowners tolerance instead of managing heard for carrying capacity and quality

Lots of big bucks seen. Would have liked to see more deer in general. SD has plenty of tags available. Deer numbers could be higher with less tags given out.

Did not see any large bucks this season, I.E. 160"+. Typically will see or have an encounter with one of these per year. Number of deer was slightly better than average. State is doing well overall
