Ward's Outfitters comes highly recommended from Bowsite.com and Bowhunting Safari Consultants, and this trip lived up to the lofty expectations. This was my first guided trip for any species. Steven Ward and guide Brian Eason provided a great hunt. These guys know the gray ghost and its home range better than just about anyone. They live for chasing the elusive coues deer.
August hunting is done from ground blinds and tree stands set on minerals and/or water sources. Everyone in camp saw deer on every day of their hunt; however for various reasons the camp went 1 for 3 with my spike being the only harvest. The size of my deer should not be used as an indication of the trophy potential available. I chose to shoot the first legal deer that gave me a shot, but in 2.5 days of hunting I did see two deer that would have easily scored over 90 inches.
The camp is conducted out of a very nice bed and breakfast which provides the morning and evening meal. The evening meal is often an elaborate multi-course event. I highly recommend Ward’s Outfitters!

It was hot, but not nearly as hot as I expected it to be in southern Arizona at the end of August. There were some afternoon showers.
