I went on this black bear hunt with four deer hunting buddies who had hunted with Tom and Deb for consecutive years. I didn't think it would be possible to enjoy the pursuit of another species as much as I do the pursuit of whitetail deer, but I was wrong. The reason bear hunting is on the rise in North America is because it is a freaking blast! We all took nice bears. Surprisingly, three of the five bears killed were color phase chocolates. We had colder weather in the early part of the week and still saw numerous bears. Tom is passionate about what he does and it showed. He and Bill worked tirelessly to put us in the best position to be surrounded by bears. As a rookie, he took time to answer my rookie questions without making me feel foolish and provided the guys with a game plan daily. Grandview Outfitters has numerous stands sites so no one hunted the same stand twice unless they wanted to. The equipment and bait sites were well maintained and the process was organized. Tom clearly has this down to a science which explains why my his clients have continued to come back year after year. The lodging and food was great. The crew from 2014 have all paid up and we are set to return in May 2015. It was surreal for a southern boy like me to hunt in a place where you can hear elk bugling in the distance while seeing black bear, deer, timber wolf, coyote, moose, and pine martin. Thanks Tom, Bill and Deb for a epic week in the Duck Mountains of Manitoba. I wish I could take all my southern fried deer hunting buddies to Grand View Outfitters for an experience like this.
