After a 2 hour horse back ride we arrived at the drop camp at around 3 in the afternoon. The tent was a nice cabelas outfitter tent. They had it set up with cots, foam mattresses, camp stove, fuel, water and juices. What more could you ask for? I unpacked and decided to go spotting for a few hours before dark. I was unable to locate anything within hiking distance so I decided to go for a hike just north of camp. I cut a crossed a set of fresh tracks so I sat on the steep hillside and gave a couple cow calls and a bugle but didn't hear anything. Then just as I was getting ready to continue hiking I heard a limb brake a probably a hundred yards down the hill so I jumped behind a group of trees. Just as I got behind the trees I looked down the hill and I seen a nice 6x6 cautiously working his way up the hill. Luckily he was looking in the direction that I had just called. I waited for him to go behind another group of tress and pulled back. He was know at 30 yds broadside and looking around. I released the arrow and he went head over heals rolling back down the hill. When he stopped rolling he landed on his back with his horns stuck under a dead pine and all four legs pointing up in the air. I wasnt able to move him by myself so I gutted him and pulled the hide off as much as I could so he could cool down during the night. I got back to my tent and radioed in that I had my elk and Larry said who is this again didn't we just drop you off? The horse train showed up the next morning. I led them to the bull and they were all great to help me cut up the elk, bag it and haul it back to the base camp. My hunt lasted for not even 4 hours and it took me 12 hours to get there. Larry and his wife Laura run a first class operation. I couldn't have been happier with him and his staff.
