Hunter Comments
I do not recommend this outfitter

Fellow hunters, I am writing this review for your benefit so you don't get shafted by the owner of this operation, Jerry Cahill. I have no personal interest here, you can accept my comments or not. I just wish I had the benefit of this advice before I booked this hunt. STAY AWAY! I'm sure that he and even some hunters will take a different point of view. Of course HE will. The other hunters that will support him are his buddies that he brings to camp every year, no doubt at a discounted rate.

When you meet/talk to Jerry initially he seems like a solid guy; don't be fooled. He will smile as he takes your money and when you show up in camp, after waiting in excitement for months, you will be lucky to see him at all. First, he swears to you that he will have only about 14 hunters in camp; at one point we counted 30. He has no regular guides to help with 30 hunters, it's only him. Are you starting to get the picture; does the word GREED come to mind?

I sat dark to dark in a stand for 2 days and had some decent action. I have hunted Ohio 5 times with other outfitters and I know the potential is there. To be fair, one particular lease Cahill hunts is a very good. I wanted to change stands for the next day, so I let him know that. He assured me during the booking process that this would not be an issue. He shut me down for the remainder of the hunt. Wouldn't talk to me, answer my texts, or return my calls. Same thing happened to the person that joined me on the hunt. Others in the camp actually got heated over this type of treatment and were trying to get a refund. IS THIS HOW YOU WANT TO SPEND YOUR HUNT? So, after waiting a year for my whitetail hunt, taking a week's vacation, not to mention the costs, my hunt was over in 2 days. After day 2, I sat in stands that we're selected by a person he hired the previous week, who was a former hunter at the camp. The makeshift "guide" (great guy), only knew the locations of about 5 lousy stands. We left the hunt a day early to stop the bleeding. I tried to address this with Cahill multiple times and he ignored me, my hunting buddy and others in the camp. I have gone on over 20 outfitted hunts and I have never written a review, good, bad or otherwise. I feel compelled to write this one, because if you are passionate about bow hunting, I don't wan't this to happen to you.

Was the outfitter notified of problems? - NO

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

Fellow Sportsmen, I am writing this response hoping you can understand the people and personalities we deal with every year-some good guys, some bad guys. I have no personal interest in telling you we have had the best year to date so far this year and that positive and enthusiastic hunters will always prevail, but we have and they will. When you first meet Glenn, he seems like a true sportsman, until his friend kills a buck that’s on the smaller side, and Glenn immediately demeans him for it. We were busy the week Glenn was here. Some hunters were overbooked because we have had such success. In addition, some hunters stayed extra days from the week before because of what was being seen. That said, to prevent over-bookings in the future, we will have our bookings posted on our website. The guides were previous hunters who did an excellent job because they had knowledge of all the woods and are good hunters and sportsmen themselves. Mr. Vicari declined the guides’ help and information; it seems he knew much more than they did. As a matter of fact, several big bucks were killed from the same exact stand locations that he refused to hunt from. Starting to get the picture? Mr. Vicari’s attitude was getting very nasty by mid-week. He was also doing a lot of wine-tasting, so maybe his glasses were getting slightly wine-colored. Get the picture better now? In 2014-2015, we will start a screening process for all new clients. In addition, all hunts will be booked on first-come, first serve basis. We will be sending out contracts that contain information on how many hunters will be in camp, as well as a code of conduct for new clients. Our regular guys are great sportsmen and we have had no problems with them. As far as shafted goes, Glenn seems to know a lot about that. Just kidding, a little camp humor. We actually shafted several bucks, including three the morning Glenn left early. He took his toys and went home. Yes, by the way, Glenn, the solid sportsman that he is, shot a doe and left the meat behind to rot. The facts are you can’t please everyone, especially if they act like a 6-year old. The other thing I think of often is how the almighty deer affects the brain. Some guys would be glad to be able to get in a treestand, walk, talk, or not have cancer, and just be glad to be in the great outdoors hunting. We treat all our clients with respect, however, unfortunately the favor isn’t always returned. We have had our best year to date; over forty opportunities on bucks through archery and gun, so this negative review trust me won’t amount to much. If you’d like to view our pics, please visit us on Facebook. Thanks Glenn. Have a Merry Christmas! Sincerely yours, Jerry Cahill
