Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

I have known Gordon, Millee and Vinnie of 3 Rivers Guide Service for a number of years now. I met Gordon at a Steak House in Harrisburg, PA. during the week of the Sportsman Show. While waiting outside for seating, I noticed Gordon drive up. I had been interested in bear hunting for some time, and when he was seated at a table next to me, I took the opportunity to ask questions. One thing lead to another and he asked me to visit him at his booth at the show later that week. Which I did. After answering all of my questions, I had placed a deposit for a bear hunt during the fall of 2009. During the second week of baiting season 2009, I was able to take a 334 lb black bear (male) that was later aged at 21 years old. My friends say "I shot the old man" but I prefer to think of it as "I shot the one that no-one else could for 21 years". Whichever! As for the food, I think I gained weight while in Maine for the week. Breakfast consisted of pancakes or waffles and either bacon or sausage sometimes both! The coffee was always on. Lunch was usually light with your choice of lunch meat and snack crackers or chips. Dinner was a real treat! Home cooked and plenty of it! Can't tell the wife but Millee and Vinnie can cook up some "vittles". The lodge was cozy. The main lodge at this time (2009) would accommodate 12 to 15 persons easily. Being 2 1/2 miles back off of the paved road was not a problem as the generator performed nicely - kept the lights on, the meals coming and kept people showered for another day. At night the gas fire place took the evening chill off. When the fatal shot was fired, Gordon was the first person I contacted. He still gets a chuckle out of talking about this because I was so excited that he could not understand a word I was saying. My first bear - I was slightly excited. He knew where I was and he rounded up a crew and headed out to pick us (me + bear) up. Gordon drove me to the check station and had his butcher meet us there. Arrangements were made with the butcher and the hide was forwarded to the taxidermist for a full mount. Gordon delivered the mount to me during the 2010 Sportsman Show in Harrisburg, PA. Wife's thrilled! During the fall 2010 season (first week of bait season) I was fortunate enough to bag a 222 lb sow. Just as excited as the previous year, I waited for fifteen minutes to place the call to Gordon. He knew as soon as he answered the phone. He told me to stay put and he would be right out. He showed up again with the guys and after the pictures, we were off to the check station. The butcher met us there again and slid the bear onto his truck. This years bear will make a nice rug. Wife - Not so thrilled but is convinced she has always wanted a bear rug! A lot of upgrades have been added to the lodge between 2009 and 2010. The lodge is double the building it was in 2009. The downstairs has a big screen TV, a pool table and a second gas fire-place was added. Not to mention a new road to access the lodge and a pair of military generators housed in their own building. I firmly believe that Gordon and Vinnie are doing everyting humanly possible and are dedicated to put you on a bear if you book with 3 Rivers Guide Service. Remember that it is not a guaranteed hunt. This is still considered fair chase. If you are willing to listen to your guide and put in the time at your site/sites, you too can have stories to tell for the rest of your life. I believe the price to be fair and the accomidations are above anything that I had anticipated. I plan to return for as long as the wife will allow. Matbe a shoulder mount in 2011? I consider Gordon, Millee and Vinnie as close friends and I look forward to bear hunts at 3 Rivers for many years to come.
