Tilled a couple strips in one of my clover fields a couple years ago and planted alfalfa. It came in well. Wanted to kill and till the whole plot and replant the whole thing with alfalfa. My seed guy told me I can't do that because there is something in the roots that won't allow the new seed to germinate even if it's round uped. Anybody know if that's true?

Yes it's true. Mature alfalfa puts toxin in the soil to prevent competition from alfalfa seeds starting. I know here in our farms we wait 6 months to a year to reseed to alfalfa

Thanks

Yes 6 months.

Kill buck, Your best bet would be to kill the alfalfa this spring and plant an annual that is not a legume for this year and reseed alfalfa next spring.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks
