I'm new to whitetails, I grew up hunting out west (Mulies and Elk) and was hoping some of the experts on here could give me an idea of what this guy scores? I drove down to some land my family has in Ohio and pulled my cameras this past weekend...was surprised to see this buck pop up.

Posted 3 more to give additional perspectives. Frankly I'm not a trophy hunter but I never anticipated getting pics of a buck this big! Appreciate any insight folks have, mainly just curious what he would score.

Sweet looking rack! He'd be on the wall. Can't tell if that's a droptine or a flyer coming off the g2?

Thanks for posting, Grunter. I think it's just a flyer.

Looks like he's a 17 point 10x7 with 7 symmetric points. I think he's a high 160s buck. If he's not old, he could end up a monster.

I'll get roasted but in Illinois or even my home state I'd give that one another year. Tremendous potential.

After seeing the new pics, I will say he is more in the mid to high 160's.

I have a less impressive buck on the wall that grosses 182 and another that goes 176, you'd never guess it.
HAHAHAA, the score guesser says i have a limit of 182! I think this guy is 190ish.

Mainframe 7x6 with 15" extras 23 scorable points scored 174". I wish I could find my trail cam pics of this deer it was in 07. The opps deer is very similar in time length and without the extras. The opps deers' beams come up making his tines appear longer than they are. The buck in my picture was 3.5 I have his 2.5 year old sheds and he was in his 120's. If this deer had been on a different property i would have let him go but he was 1/2 mile from town and road hunters were circling like vultures every day. When I killed him he had been shot with a rifle in the hind quarter and was infected. Peel off the velvet and that buck is not what many of you think he is.

I made my estimate just looking at the first picture. After seeing the rest of the pics i would up my estimate around 180 gross. Alot more junk than I saw in the first pic. Nice, nice deer!

After putting a pencil to paper I come up with 169. That's a little closer to you guys. Here's a little bit better pic of the deer I posted above with a 160" 7x6 frame.

Thanks for all the insight fellas! Like I said, I never expected to find a buck of his caliber on the trail cam. Too bad he's totally nocturnal, I'm not sure where he's bedding and its doubtful I'll get a poke at him this fall. Pretty cool to get them on camera though.

I would say he will gross all of the 173 I put in. Lots of points, decent mass, no huge long tines but he makes up for that with the shear number of points. Shoot him, no doubt! Shawn

I think he's still young...4.5? be hard to pass either way. He's 170" all day long..I can tell you this..if he makes another year, and its a good moisture year, you may be looking at a 190" deer. A friend has a very similar deer that grosses 202. That deer gained dam near 18" between 5 & 6 per his sheds. Look at his body in pic 2. Awesome deer & genetics.

Something else to think about, Ohio has had a screwed up year as far as moisture.

Thanks for the insight Jr. These pics were taken on my family's farm and they're gracious enough to give me access. I heard the same from them in regards to how much precipitation the area received this year (light amounts). I suspect you and some of the others who have commented here are correct, he'll be even more of a boomer next year.

No problem zim..originally from the easternshore of Maryland. We have a small farm to. Moisture is a big deal here in the NE! Having a hand in taxidermy & processing, it's nothing to see 170" deer 3 years old during a good year. Go to any local deer farm and they will show you 2.5 year Olds grossing 170. I have been fooled before, and don't claim expert. JMO

Right Popr...Its crazy genetics. They don't have to be old, but you just never know what you may have in another year. Could go the wrong way too! Like someone else said, as soon as you let him go the poaching crowd or your neighbor gets him the next year. You have to have mega ground or dedicated neighbor's.

With the tines that close together his mass measurements will be very good.

Just wrapped up my week in Ohio. I filled my tag but wasn't able to close the deal on this fella. There were mumblings that a friend of a neighbor dropped a bruiser and it turned out to be the same buck. We swung by the neighbor's place today and I snapped a pic of the picture, he gross scored (green) 175". Really appreciate everyone's insight here, figured the fellas on bowsite could give me an idea and the average estimate was spot on!

Who cares if it was a crossbow kill? There is always one in every group. The elitist always look for any small crack to diminish another's success. Must be a Hillary fan!

Here's a pic of the buck I harvested. He has the heaviest body of any I've taken thus far, though I'm still very much a novice. To answer one of the prior questions, I was told the large buck that scored 175" was taken with a compound (not a crossbow, although I'm not sure why folks automatically assume a crossbow?)
