Just wondering what anyone's opinion, on what he will score when his velvet will come off. Picture was snapped July 9th.

looks like a 120 class buck, maybe high teens? They won't grow much more after 7/9... a few inches... Thats a shooter in my part of NJ - for sure... Nice picture. Thanks for sharing.

115-120

I disagree with the 'not growing much after 7/9' (at least for the part of the Midwest I live in). They certainly can.

I posted a buck that I had on trail cam a couple of years ago and asked if he'd have 140" of antler when he finished. He had what appeared to be 120" of measurements when I got the photo (I think it was 7/9 actually). A fellow hunter on the same property nailed him that year after I had 2 more encounters. His gross before deducts were 138.5.

The key is the bulbous shiny tips. When I see that (which the buck I'm referring to had), I know there can be inches per tine/beam left.

Regarding this buck, he doesn't have those bloated ends to his points, so I don't think he'll gain but an inch per tine with the G2's and 3's having the most growth potential. He is mostly done and might gross 110-115 due to weak brows and an inside spread of less than ear width, it could be a little less. IMO

I agree with you Bill there is a big change from early July to mid August. I'm from south central WI.

I have had people tell me the same thing. The next couple of pics will show you how they can grow. First one is July 8 2011 and next one will be end of August.

Wilbowhunter: Any encounters with this deer last year?

It varies a lot from deer to deer. Honestly I have seen some that are already near done growing and others that have a lot left to do. However, I would say that in my experience they seem to really add the inches the last week of June to the first couple weeks of July.

Deer Ticks deer does not have the bulbous ends which indicates that growth is nearing the end so I think that the scores above will be pretty close.

Smaller than this guy, which I would have put somewhere in that 130-140 ballpark. I'd say you have some fairly good guesses.

From the time of the pics, I would guess that just maybe that buck was nocturnal in coming to that man-made water hole. Pretty good one though.

thanks everyone so far, i have not hunted this place yet, its all new to me. I put this camera in an area that had a ton of old tree rubs. Literally every tree in this small clump of trees had scaring from previous years. I am still trying to figure out the land and where to put tree stands.

The buck I shot last year in NJ on 11/18 - the only pic I got was July 23rd in full velvet. He did not put on another inch from that date. I realize that is NOT representative of all bucks, all states - but in my area, by 3rd week in July, the growth really slows down.

Non Typical I have trail photos of him for 3 years only saw him once when he was a smaller nine let him go. Had pics up to early Nov. last year and so far that is it. Maybe he didnt make it through gun? Never heard anyone shooting a ten that looked like that in my area but who knows could have traveled a long way during rut.
