 C.J. Winand

CJ is a wildlife biologist and an outdoor writer for Bowhunter and North American Hunter magazines. Collectively, current circulation for both magazines exceeds more than one million hunters. Reader questionnaires indicate his monthly columns, entitled "Huntin' Whitetails" and "Whitetail Tips" are always one of the most popular features. Internet users can find CJ on the largest bowhunting web site at www.bowsite.com. He is also on the hunting advisory staffs of Scent-Lok, API Treestands and Realtree Camouflage. CJ has served on the Educational Review Committee for the National Rifle Association's Whitetail Deer Hunter Clinic Program and is a featured seminar speaker on the NRA's Great American Hunters Tour. In addition, he has worked on a Masters of Science degree in Wildlife Management at West Virginia University under Dr. David Samuel (Conservation Editor for Bowhunter magazine). CJ also manages and guides on several quality deer management programs around the country.

All the scientific information presented during his talks are based on actual field research conducted by himself or other prominent wildlife biologists. CJ translates this biological information so everyone can understand and utilize the latest scientific results. Hunters that use these findings can readily adapt or modify their hunting techniques to harvest quality bucks. CJ's seminars are data packed and will elevate even an experienced hunter's savvy. Come prepared to take notes on what some people call a whole college course in "Advanced Deer Hunting 101". Seminar / Slide Show Subjects Include:

    • Biology of the Rut: Radio telemetry studies of deer during the rutting time periods
    • Deer Vocalizations: Differences between man-made and actual deer acoustics
    • Deer Pelletology: The role scent communication plays during the hunting season
    • Movement patterns of bucks and does during pre-rut, rut and post-rut
    • How weather patterns and moon phase/position influences deer activity
    • Factors that influence quality versus quantity deer management
    • How to age deer
    • Characteristics of primary and secondary scrapes
    • The relationship of habitat characteristics to deer movements
    • The biological meaning and significance of the overhanging branch
    • The importance of early/late rubbing and scraping activity
    • Deer vision and the UV effect: Can deer see blaze orange
    • Food plots and habitat factors which effect hunter efficiency
