Jake's Difficulty Rating

Mountain Lion 1.5

Jake rated each animal based on three criteria:

1.) degree of training probably required:
2.) element of danger...(either from the expected weather, terrain, or animal)
3.) the cost.

Zero would be the lowest, and three would the highest.

He did not take into account the difficulty involved in taking a P&Y caliber animal (i.e. mule deer, etc).

Jake's Mountain Lion Summary

I purchased my cat hunt at an RMEF auction in 1993 for $1,800.00. I hunted near Ovando, Montana with a tough-as-nails guide that was a Vietnam Veteran. He had a couple black and tans and a couple walkers which located and treed this cat on the first day of my hunt...which was ironic...because there were two other hunters in camp that were driving the roads every day for a week hoping to cut a track. We actually parked our truck and went for a walk in two feet of snow. Within a couple hours, we cut a fresh track and the cat was treed within two or three hours. It was an eleven yard shot which is rather anti-climatic, as the real excitement is in the chase, and the music of the dogs. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the meat is!!
