Jake's Difficulty Rating

Dall Sheep 2

Jake rated each animal based on three criteria:

1.) degree of training probably required:
2.) element of danger...(either from the expected weather, terrain, or animal)
3.) the cost.

Zero would be the lowest, and three would the highest.

He did not take into account the difficulty involved in taking a P&Y caliber animal (i.e. mule deer, etc).

Jake's Dall Sheep Summary

About four months after I tagged my desert bighorn, I was able to bowhunt for Dall sheep in the Northwest Territories. We were able to stalk within 40 yards on my ram and then we waited for him to feed and move into a position where I could get an even better shot. Once again, it was virtually a head-on shot, and the arrow completely passed through the animal lengthwise. After several months of intense training, I was able to convince my guide and his assistant to let me pack the entire ram off of the mountain by myself. It provided a very satisfying conclusion to a one day sheep bowhunt. We cooked sheep meat on a flat rock, and spent the rest of the evening enjoying fresh mountain air, cold alpine water, and sheep tenderloins......while the Thermocell kept all of the mosquitos at bay.
