Discuss the hunt here. We will try to answer your questions in between hunts and during the evenings.
Where is the live hunt on bowsite?
Pat---are you up there chasing them little 6 pointers with Rupe again? You guys need to come down here where the real bucks are.. he he he. Good luck to both of ya and don`t forget to make sure your bow is tied down in the back of the truck..LOL
Good luck boys.
I hope the duck hunters don't blast ya out, or a hurricane doesn't blow you down this year, guys.
TB
Make sure you get Rupe an autographed copy of the deer poop calculator from CJ while your in MD!
Watch out Pat, Rupe is into rolling in deer poop now!
He does have an unnatural stink to him, don't he? :^)
Must be the time of year.
Good luck to ya folks and may the wind be in your face (depending on your set up).

Pat, You gotta check out a local sport shop down there. I can't remember the name but it looks like a log cabin. They have photo albums there with some of the largest whitetail racks I have ever seen. I couldn't get over the length of the brow tines or the mass of the racks. We were there in 98 hunting Sika in Dorchester Co. near the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. Good luck, Jeff
Been in that sportshop. Impressive local deer for sure.
Hey Daddy, we saw the bowsite this morning. Waiting to see your trophy on the photos! Love, Sarah and Luke

Pat, what is that white thing on your bowstring at the nocking point? This is in reference to the second picture on the 11/13 update.
Good luck to all ! Being fairly new to the Bowsite is it possible for anyone to become involved in these hunts ? I am stuck in a little rut,(heeheee) hunting New Hampshire, New York, Pa, ( can't remember how to spell Pennsylvania ) and Vermont, would really like to try a southern hunt, especially with a group of friends from the Bowsite !!!!!!!
I enjoy following the live hunts. Thanks for letting those of us who are trapped at work have an opportunity to tag along.
Two points:
1. I was glad to read Steve Rupert's name on the hunt. The last time I heard Rupe refer to his brother was when Steve had been in a bad auto accident. It's good to see he's well and out after those pesky whitetails.
2. Any chance you could give us specific addresses for the Terraserver images specifically for the spots you hunt so we can look them over. Even if you could only give me a good street address of the property hunted, I can usually work that into a terraserver image. It'd be cool to look over those spots.
Good luck to all of you.
Jimbo, RUPE is Steve. Steve's brother Scott was in the accident.

TexasT,
Thanks for the clarification. My mistake.
Matt, the white tape is to keep my Carter Release from cutting my longbow string.
Ohhhhh, this is sweet!!! Thanks for posting the 'link' Snakeeater.....

Hey Pat & Steve. Glad to see a kill. Can't wait to get a look at some monsters!! Gee Pat, how many days did we spend in Pa without a shot?? Good hunting guys... Bill....

For those inquiring, Rupe's website is in the link.
Brad,
Hope those big northern deer don't scare you too badly. Remember, the camera doesn't lie so you can forget about trying to pull off any "fish" stories when you get home. Good luck, cousin. Bring home a big one.
Adam
Pat,
Congratulations on the doe.
Sounds like bow worked OK. Congrads, I hope there are many more wild animals to feel the beauty of your new bow.
Bob
Congrats on the doe-my only question is were the fawns old enough to survive the winter without their mother? Judging from the milk glands on her I would say probaly not- Good luck on the rest of your hunt-Crow
Old Crow,
I have to come to Pat's defense on this one.
From a Wildlife Biologist - you are wrong about fawns that are orphaned now not surviving the winter. I assure you that is not a concern. Fawns were weaned from milk in August - it is November. Seasons are timed right - and does need to be taken out to keep populations under control.
Good job Pat!
>>>----> Gene
Well Patrick you have your buck, now clean out a bunch of those dang does!!!!
Well done.
TB
Never Mind.
Wrong hunt.
Jeesh.
TB
WVhunter-I stand corrected-here in north Florida the fawns drop so late that it is possible to see them with spots on them and still nursing even at the start of gun season-it is a regular occurence during bow season and I have passed on several shots on does with spotted fawns just for that reason-I guess my ignorance is showing- I should point out that I have no problem taking a doe and have taken several during gun season since they let us start doing that here-I was just wondering since the Maryland winters are a lot colder than it is down here-Good luck-Crow
Pat and Rupe, I'd love to hear the details on why you selected the morning stand location for 11/14. There's not enough detail in the drawing to see why you decided on the location. I assuming you are trying to intercept deer coming from the cut cornfield. Are there some major trails or scrape lines you are hunting? What are some of the other reasons it is a good location?
bradley, we all hope your having a good time with your deer antics. remember, if you call me and wake me up one more time you are walking home from the airport....

Pat, Nevermind the congrads on the doe. Congradulations are in order for marrying probably the most understanding woman on the earth. She sure does give you your space for hunting . I'm jealous. Good luck
Matt, this is the area where I killed my big buck in '97. The area is extremely thick and because of the rain I decided to head in there. We were hoping that the rut would kick in and this particular area is a popular place for the mature bucks to chase does in.
Unfortunately the rut does not seem to be hot yet, at least not for the mature bucks. This is very strange for these areas - if you remember last years' live hunt I saw a mature/trophy deer nearly every day. We've never seen anything quite like this - it's almost like I'm hunting PA with the quality bucks that I've been seeing. But we know the big bucks are around and hopefully things will kick in soon.
Here's what the other guys have seen today:
Steve Rupert (MD) and Ron College (PA) hunted together to film. They had a mature doe come in and saw a big herd of deer with one small buck. Brad Adams (TX) passed up a group of does, and Eric Anderson (CA) had a big buck show up but he was not comfortable with the amount of shooting light despite being within legal shooting hours so he didn't shoot. Despite the lack of big bucks we're all having a blast and hunting really hard.
Let's see small bucks, tons of does, are you sure I am not there ? LOL. It sure sounds like one on my hunts in Pa last month ! Hang in there it has to improve !!!!
Sounds like my kneck of the woods too...I just think the little guys are getting antsy...it`s all fix`n to explode here real quick...
Pat, move your butt up there in the thin neck of woods between the cut corn and soy beans!!!
Hope you fellers get a nice one!
Pat,
Matthew really enjoyed seeing the picture of you with the doe, he said I'm going to cut it up with Daddy when he gets home. Patrick Jr., with his new found love for the computer, said that's really neat now can I go to Disney.com! And Abigail kept on trying to attack the keyboard.
Oh and Jim thank you for the compliment.
Good luck Pat, the boys want to see more pictures.
Julie Lefemine
Pat,
How high are you putting up your treestand, approximately? Where are the mpeg files this year? Good luck to all and hunt safe.
Ken
I concur with the rut not being in full yet in MD...put in another thread that this morning I saw a little 1 horn 3 pointer come in to stand grunting with nose down....came in checked out the area and left still in "search" mode. Was neat to see! 1st signs of the rut here!

Lady Huntress,
No, the cute one at the top is the deer. Rupe is the other one. LOL!
Kathi
Good grief Lady Huntress!
The boy can't find hats big enough as it is!
I aint even seen the picture, but I know Rupe is NOT the cute one at the top.
They must have used an old photo with me in it, right Kathi?
TB
TennBow,
It would almost have to be, wouldn't it? hehe
I was wondering when someone would question the Carter Release..
Went to a Karoke bar tonight - Rupe is a mean rapper! He sounded just like scoop-doggie-poop.
The Carter Release? It's obvious Pat is mocking me..he he he
but wait til MUDPIE and I go down to SPIDEY's place next week...I'll be mocking PAT with my longbow!!! he he he
I sure wanted to do a drive-by on the clan at RUPE's place..but as luck would have it, I am still stuck here in PA with work. Hopefully, I'll finish up Friday night.
Is it just me, or is this hunt becoming more reminiscent of past hunts with RUPE??? he he he
Man Rupe I can just see you up on stage getting after it...I sing country myself...I made George suffer when he came to town at the local Kareokee bar...Tell us about the hunt...bigger bucks are getting pretty active in my kneck of the woods
Travis....that's because you HAVE bigger bucks in your neighborhood...he he he
Did I ever tell ya bout my "open mic" nite in Canada?? Figured what the heck...nobody knew me and I wasn't running for president...might as well! he he he

What's the weather like there? How big are the buck's there? they run between 92-160 here, that's about average. Was just wondering how they compare
Rob, cold and windy today. Saw 30 deer. I haven't seen a shooter on this trip but 160 is not out of the question for this area.
I rattled a 120 class 8 point in this morning on the edge of a wheatfield...whatever stand he is putting ya in for the evening hunts I`d sit in during the morning hours...deer are hanging all over the edges...oops--almost sounds like I`m telling rupe he doesn`t know what he`s doing. he he he...hang tuff and don`t give in...it only takes a few minutes to make the whole hunt worth it...hunt the edges, hunt the edges
Good luck Gents!
Troy---you singing Kareokee just scares the hell out of me...had to be Metalica...;)

Kareokee?? Who said anything bout Skaryokee?? Shoot man, this was we playing my own guitar on stage! My singing debute!(a short lived career)
Lord help us...he he he...I heard ya went traditional.. Had any luck this year?
Yeah Travis, he knows all them old traditional acoustic Metallica songs....
Pat, are you seeing any active scrapes or rubs? It seems awfully late up there not to have hard rut going on.
TB
By golly could it be that Rupe has way to many does up there?? Guess the Great Doe Slayer will have to make a trip up there clear them out a bit....do a little shoulder shooting!
Be the buck Rupe, be the buck.....he he he.
Good luck tomorrow. Hope you kill a goodern!

Gee now I know who my friends are.
The big boys started showing up today so Pat will hunt tomorrow.
Brad from Texas saw a monster chasing a doe near him for a few hours this afternoon til dark.
If it's the same buck I've been seeing he'll score in the 140's to 150's.
I saw a big mature buck at 3:30pm. He never came closer than 80 yards.
Next week will be hot.
I'll be down tomorrow afternoon!
Thanks to everyone for a great time.
Brad it was a pleasure to meet you and hunt with you.
Hope to see you next year.
Eric what can I say? Please move to Maryland and flee California. he he he
BTW Eric next time tell them to cook your steak with a flashlight. :-)
Pat it's great to see how far you've progressed and you really didn't need to pay me for your whitetial hunting lessons. (Shrimping) ROTFLMAO!
Ron you're the big brother I always wanted, but never had.
Congratulations on your first deer. Wish you could of stayed longer.

Somebody else killed a deer? Didn't read about that one.
RUPE...shrimping?? or is that crawfishin?? he he he You know if we didn't love ya, we wouldn't be ribbin ya so much. Just think if we didn't like ya!! But it's always good to see overinflated ego's lose a bit of air now and then...happens to me all the time! ROTFLMAO!
Gonna stop in and see ya some time either Sunday or early next week. Saturday nite will be my last nite of work here in Philly(well..til Tuesday after Turkey Day) Lacy and I will be passing through going down to SPIDEY's place to whack some whitetails. We'll stop either on the way down or on the way back up. Good luck to yall tomorrow.
he he he---where ya been Rupe?? It was like that last week here, then all of a sudden bucks are running all over the place...go get`m guys!
BTW---Please quit calling at wee hours of the morning asking for my big buck tips and tactics...I allready posted a few on your whitetail site at no cost. Just follow those instructions and you`ll get a shot at one of them monster 6 point does...
Might as well schedule me for the 3rd week next year. I`m down to 15 cigs a day...first of the year they`ll be gone
Steve,
My stock trailer's brake line broke tonight. I may not be able to get those deer to you until Sunday. Hope it's not a problem.

Mike, You dumb wingnut you were suppossed to be here L-A-S-T Sunday.
The shows about over and we had to import some scrawny Kansas mature bucks (see pat's videos)
Let all bucks loose this evening. I've tricked Pat into staying one more day!
Troy Green's Supporting Link
RUPE...how do ya plan on sabotaging PAT this year, though? The "throw the bow out the back of the truck" routine aint gonna work again. He's already used the "dropped the arrows off the side of the mountain" excuse...and we all know there aint no mountains in MD. Ya don't have CAT up there to dry fire PAT's bow....oh wait...you can use the waterfowl hunters, again!!! Yeah...that's the ticket...set up the waterfowler's with their 10 ga. shotguns about 80 yards from PAT's stand..he he he
I`ll tell ya what I`m waiting on---Pictures of Scott`s buck(rupe`s bro)that he is going to shoot out of Rupes favorite stand location next week...Guess who`s comming to hunt KS next year---old tennybow himself...Pat your more than welcome to join us. I understand it`s a little further from home than Rupe`s place but at least you`ll see some big bucks...he he he...
Seriously I`m sure Rupe is more frustraited than you are Pat...I know when I had George here in ks it really bothered me that he didn`t get a shot at a buck, but as with anybody who spends enough time in the woods knows it takes alot of hard work and patience to get a big buck--or even just a decent buck as far as that goes. Hopefully God willing and the creeks don`t rise you`ll get your buck saturday...I`d say the odds are in your favor...tally ho

Steve, it still amazes me that they're moving so late up there...
Hey Trav, check out the rub on the link above. I may have screwed up by tellin a buddy of mine where it is (well, kinda-sorta where it is).
I've got to get a day or two somewhere to go hunt this buck.
TB
I only live about 15 miles from Rupe's lease and the rut has been going strong here for two weeks. A lot of the does have been bred. They are still going but I look for it to taper off any time now. I saw a buck chasing a doe this morning and she didn't want any parts of him so she isn't ready yet. I hope it hangs on a little longer as I have had more fun the last two weeks than in a lot of years. I have seen some bucks that the does were allowing to tag along. A friend shot an 8 point that green scored 141 last week and he was bedded down with a doe. My friend chunked his water bottle to get the buck to stand up!
Sure Lex. Your buddy probably chucked his water bottle to wake YOU up! he he he
TB
Time to start lowering your standards I guess.
Hey Pat ... Does Rupe know how to do that belly thing like me? ..8^) .... Dal PS: A morrison bow!!!! ... now you finally own a REAL bow.
Troy---the biggest destruction thats going on in my neck of the woods in FEB is my wedding!!!!! he he he...We are getting married feb 10th...been common law for 5 years. You should come up if your going to be in town. It`ll be a party! We can always hook the boat up and go crappie fish`n too...look me up slick...
Tennbow---C`mon now you don`t expect me to believe that a Tennesse buck actually made that rub on that tree do ya...looks more like a mock rub to me...probably in your own backyard...he he he...ya best be getting out and taking care of that guy! I rattled in 4 does and 8 point this morning at 10:00 am...right on the EDGE of a wheatfield....they are still rutting hard here in ks...1st 10 pointer that walks my way is history! This has been our best rut in years. Been a lot of fun!
Lonny,
If you take Troy crappie fishing on your honeymoon you won't be married very long!
Tennbow,
I think I know what Bowyer was doing in TN. I've seen him rubbing up against trees!
Bowdad---I believe that rub of Tennbows looks more like the work of a weedeater!!! hehaaaaa...Troy we are getting married on the 10th but not leaving on our honeymoon till the following thursday...let me know when your going to be in Tulsa...
It was of the upmost pleasure to hunt with Steve and Pat. Eric; well that's another story that I don't have time to go into now!!Great weather and a good time. I hope Pat goes to that bottom and shots that deer I saw yesterday. Oh yea Steve's Kareoke song was "like a virgin" Seeing him writh around on the floor was something to see(or not to). Hope Steve or you Pat can come to TX to see our scrawny little deer down here, let me know and I can help with arrangements. Once again Steve thanks and say hello to Desil for me.
Brad/TX Biggen
Big`n ----Y a mean he didn`t sing his Boy George tune? I`m sure "Like a virgin" was still impressive...ROTFLMAO

LT...right now, tentative for Feb. 8th? I think...Have to look at a calendar. Sounds like I'll be just in time for the strippers??...errr...STRIPERS...yeah...STRIPERS...fishing...that's the ticket.
Better start learning some good songs, too. I am workin on several right now with the guitar. Last night of work in Philly til week after Turkey day. Lacy flew in today. She's camping out over at Bah-Bah's. We're headin south early in the a.m. and do the DC scene all day tomorrow, then off to SPIDEY's on Monday and Tuesday. According to SPIDEY, he's gonna show us how people in the mid atlantic states REALLY hunt big whitetail...he he he...sounded almost like a challenge. Something about how MUDPIE was gonna kill the kinda buck that RUPE dreams about?? Whatever that meant.
Them guys over that direction are just a little different than most country folk I know..shoot the only person I know who kills big bucks on the East coast is Rupes brother...I`ll get the boat ready for them strippers...err stripers...
Hopefully the guys are out tracking Pat`s buck right now

You better not be pulling our legs slick!

Slick!! he he he...ROTFLMAO
PAT...what kinda camo were you wearing? Was it some that RUPE gave ya, by chance? I'm kinda wondering about all these deer seeing ya all of a sudden. I think RUPE pulled some underhanded trick and laced your camo with UV spray or something. (UV=Un Venison)he he he
Good hunt guys...wish I coulda been there. PAT, we have GOT to do one of these things together one day. I'll even use my new longbow. Been having a blast with it so far. Have made two shots "at" squirrels. First one was a few inches high. Second was on the money...but the squirrel wasn't there by the time that slow thing finally got down to the ground! Need to somehow or another crossbreed my Mathews with my Acadian Woods....call it a "Macadian" or an "Acathews"? he he he
Thanks for sharing the hunt with us guys and being the brunt of our jokes. Yall are good sports.
Man what a close call...That`s the kind of luck I`ve been having this year too...I agree with Troy--->Thanks for putting up with our BS. I enjoyed following the hunt..
BTW---That picture of that buck looks like the one I sent ya of that yearling I had under my stand last year??? ;)
As you can tell I`m having A slow night at work:
Something about watching the sun go down with a unfilled tag in your back pocket....been there several times but ya know it`s funny because thats when it really hits ya all at once----That the main thing is you enjoyed the hunt, the people ya hunted with, and the animal you were hunting....a moment of accpetance and reflection...

Sorry Rupe but wee all took a revote and decided that it would be unethical for you to hunt next week. It just wouldn`t be fair to Pat..yehaaaa...good luck bro. I`m getting that big 10 figured out--hopefully I`ll get him by next week. I`ve got 10 days till rifle season opens...good luck bro
Great hunt guys! Thanks. I'm really jealous...... Dal
Do you always get "busted" that much. Was it because you were filming?...what about the scent?, seems you guys didn't take any showers? I'm surprised with all the scent control measures available today, plus the high stands that scent would be an issue. Oh well...that's hunting right! Thanks for sharing, I looked forward to it everyday.

Brian, I have never been winded so many times by deer. Maybe it was the smell of the cameras because just last week I had deer downwind of me several times that never smelled me.
Yes we took showers and used human odor killing products!
Steve. I'd LOVE to move to Maryland, and have thought of it. But it would cost too much to have all my meals Fed-Xed from Ca! Man, if those incompitant clowns knew I was comming in for dinner that night, they'd of all called in sick!

BTW Brad, Eric said he can shoot a bow better than you can. he he he
Steve. Same thing happened to me this week. The only thing I can think of that we did different was that Brad was in the same hotel as us.
BTW. My flight from BWI was late. I had 5 min. to make my connection in Dallas. I made it, my bags did'nt. It's now about 6 am and I'm out the door to go up to San Fransisco to get my meat.
Naw Steve. I did'nt say he'd drop his bow, as in when he shoots. Just when he tries to get it into his stand! he he he.
Cantgetenough, I can vouch for the fact that the Rupester is uhhhhh, shall we say, a bit fanatic about scent control.
Seriously they take it real seriously, as should we all.
Steve, took Andy out for his first hunt on the new lease in Decatur Co yesterday and this morning. The boy is a good luck charm. We saw 7 deer within the first 40 minutes. No shooters. He's ready to chuck school and hunt full time. I told him that if his daddy can make it through 8th grade, then by golly he can too!

I have seen Rupe shoot both his bows and I am impressed. Think he shoots the Morrison recurve better than the High Country carbon
I think the new Nitro Stringers have somethignt o do with it
